Come to ARK, Margate to join Musarc and their composer in residence, Yshani Perinpanayagam, for an open rehearsal and workshop exploring diverse, textural approaches to voice, communality and ritual. No previous choral experience is needed. Sing and move with Musarc singers or just watch and listen!

Since the beginning of this year, Musarc has been conducting a choral playground, exploring possibilities for democratic composition in a choir setting. We have been building on the musical, compositional and performance skills within the choir to generate artistic ideas together.

Co-led by Musarc’s Music Director, Oli Kitching, the workshop will also feature work-in-progress by Yshani as well as music by Meredith Monk, Tim Parkinson and others.

ARK, Margate

In October 2020, Margate Synagogue was put up for auction. Four local residents, Francesca Ter Berg, Kate Gillespie, Lucy Lyons and Jan Ryan, passionate to preserve this last reminder of Cliftonville’s Jewish past, set out to save the building from demolition or commercial development.

A crowd funder was set up and thanks to huge support from local residents as well as well-wishers from around the world, the building was saved and Cliftonville Cultural Space was born.

In January 2022, ARK were granted charitable status (charity number 1197525) and now, supported by a board of trustees, are embarking on the process of turning this beautiful building into a resource which will contribute to the social and cultural life of Cliftonville West.

Following generous support from our many donors and funders the building is now able to open their doors as ARK while they continue to raise the necessary funds for the full renovation of the building.
