Joseph Kohlmaier was born in Vienna, Austria. He founded the ASD Choir in November 2008. Joseph is a senior lecturer in the history and theory of architecture at the London Metropolitan University. He studied photography at the Schule für Künstlerische Photographie in Vienna and architectural history in London, where he gained a masters degree in 2005. In 2001, Joseph founded graphic design practice Polimekanos with Stefan Kraus. In the past, he has worked as a lecturer, researcher, performance artist and on public art projects.
For Chambers 23–27/03/09 Joseph realized a real-time sound/visualization piece with video artist Paul Emery. He perfomed The Wonderful Widow of Eighteen Springs by John Cage with Mary Dullea at Juxtaposition in July 2009 and Cathy Berberian’s Stripsody at Chambers 26/03/2010.
