Sam Belinfante

Sam Belinfante (b.1983) is an artist living and working in London. In his projects he endeavours to bridge the gap between the visual and the audible. This is most evident in his graphic scores where drawings offer an interface between a performance and its direction. Whilst recently completing his Masters at the Slade Belinfante has shown both nationally and internationally – including group shows in Stoltzestrasse 11 Frankfurt, TactileBOSCH Cardiff and Tate Britain for Late at Tate.

Belinfante has recently been working on the sound for the BBC World Service’s The View from Here project, which involves the composition of four new radio plays based on four existing video works, these plays will air across the world on 28 February 2009 at 19.00. In March 2009 Belinfante will travel to New Mexico as part of the Dolbey Travel Scholarship. Whilst there Belinfante will investigate the Taos Hum, a phenomenon that both plagues and fascinates the local Taosenos.

For Chambers 23–27/03/09, Sam recreated a new version of Drip Piece, an installation first shown at the Wolburn Research Centre in 2007. He currently works on a piece for score which involves the amplified noises of paper recorded with contact microphones for the choir’s Juxtaposition event in July 2009 at Wilton’s Music Hall, London.
